About

Carl Rubino Concert and Music Photographer

I photograph live concerts by artists ranging from emerging solo singer songwriters or instrumentalists to well known performers and bands, in venues and festivals small and large. My love for concert photography is fueled by my background as both a fine art photographer http://carlrubinophotography.com and a songwriter/guitar player http://carlrubinomusic.com with a deep interest in music from jazz to folk, country to rock, and beyond.

In shooting performers I use my knowledge of guitar playing, musical composition and singing to put myself “into” the song and performance at the level of a performer, to the extent that I am often able to predict the point at which the performer I am shooting will be about to launch into a terrific section of a solo, or convey an emotion, or some other distinct feature of their performance and time my shot to catch that instant. To me, that is what makes my concert photographs different from “just another music photo”.

In each of my photographs I try to capture the moment when the musician is doing far more than just playing or singing, but is relating to their instrument, voice, music, fellow musician or audience, and conveying their music, from the depths of their creative sole. That, to me, is what photographing musicians is all about. The true music photographer “jams” with the musician. I hope you can feel that sentiment in at least some of these images.

Combining my interests as a musician and photographer, I am available to shoot musicians and bands for just about any use imaginable. I can shoot at venues, in a studio, at festivals, recording sessions, meet and greets…in short, wherever you might like photos. And I can provide prints or downloads for use on your websites, Facebook, Instagram, printing on T-shirts, albums or other medium. I can provide color, black and white, or both. I can also do simple, but effective, “behind-the-scenes” photographs or videos of things like rehearsals, backstage banter, songwriting sessions, you and your dog or other meaningful things in your life…you name it.

And you can find landscape, abstract or other works in the other galleries on my fine art photography site http://carlrubinophotography.com suitable for cover-art, posters, publicity materials, websites, etc. that can be licensed for just about any use you can think of.

The photos shown here are examples of some of the work I have done in the past and, I think, give a good look at what you can expect if I were to shoot you or your band.

Many of these images were all taken before I had a press pass, with cameras (ranging from cell phones to DSLRs with big lenses) “smuggled” into small and large venues over a period of several years. Now I’m finally legit. I just became a Contributing Music Photographer at NYS Music, an online statewide and beyond music resource which offers daily music reviews, news, interviews, video, exclusive premieres and the latest on events throughout New York State and surrounding areas promoting the music of performers from emerging to huge, in venues from small to arena sized.
